About the
project
THE BRIEF
We were delighted to be approached by our Star Hotels client to celebrate the reopening of the hotel chain after their long hiatus, we worked closely to create a unique, curious and exciting tea party event for their boutique hotel, The Franklin in Knightsbridge.
The client was more than excited to be opening up the hotel doors again and asked us to create a playful Alice in Wonderland-inspired menu for their boutique hotel. Designed to celebrate the V&A’s Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser exhibition – we couldn’t wait to get creative!
THE PROCESS/STRATEGY
Alice at The Franklin takes a journey through Wonderland, an exquisite afternoon tea with beautifully created cakes and savouries. We wanted to take this design beyond the looking glass and create something equally bold and exciting.
After researching a selection of different interpretations and illustration styles, we settled on this traditional storytelling design aesthetic. Combining an interpretation of the original Alice woodblock printing style with a contemporary colour palette to compliment the imaginative twist on the modern-day Mad Hatter’s tea party.
THE RESULTS
Originally intended to run for the duration of the Alice in Wonderland exhibition, The Franklin has extended the “Alice at” afternoon tea indefinitely. The menu is reprinted regularly as customers love them so much that they keep taking them home as souvenirs!
“Thank you so much – We love the illustrations! Honestly this is our favourite menu so far, looks incredible, thank you guys so much, as always an amazing job!” – Sophie Handley, Complex Marketing Manager
